Located in the Republic of Panama, at the Gulf of Punta Chame on the Pacific Ocean, Taborcillo island is 23 miles away of Panama City and only 3 miles from the fisher village of Punta Chame which is a growing beach community on the Panamanian Pacific Ocean side.

The island is 1 hour away from Panama City by boat and only 10 minutes away from Punta Chame by a small boat called Panga
The distance between Panama City to Punta Chame is 102 km by road which will take an estimated drive of 1 and 1⁄2 hour or a 12 minutes helicopter ride.
From the beach of Taborcillo you can see Punta Chame and also see -in the distance- the skyline of Panama City.
Taborcillo Island is also known as “The John Wayne Island”. This well-known actor was the owner of the island in the sevenMes unMl he died. The old fishermen of the area sMll remember the big “gringo” from Hollywood who used to spend some Mme at the island and fishing in the area.
The property has 20 hectares Mtled ( 44 acres ) and a circumference of 4 kilometers of white and yellow sand beach.
The vegetaMon is a tropical dry forest with trees and bushes. The east part of the island has an area covered by cactus (approx. 2 hectares) which is declared as a “bird sanctuary”, due to the fact that many seabirds and others use this area to build their nests and raise their fledglings. The Smithsonian InsMtute and the Audubon Society have some extensive bird watching studies of the Island.
At the north side of the Island, the part facing the open sea, the huge green turtles come twice a year to spawn. During the past years, the Island has been running a project saving the turtles and their eggs from being hunted or killed by fishers and natural predators. After approx. 55 days of incubation and permanently observation of the eggs, the little turtles were released in a controlled way in order to guarantee their survival on the way to the ocean.
The Island has a hotel with 25 rooms and all facilities of a comfortable beach resort.
A big pool in front of the beach at the south part of the Island, a fully equipped kitchen and restaurant, reception and administrative office, workers headquarters, a conference room, a church and a sheriff office with two cells ( western style), remembering and reviving the Western films by John Wayne.
The electrical power at the property is supplied by solar energy and by two diesel generators. The water supply is guaranteed by underground tanks which are all connected and fed by rainwater. A few wells also supply freshwater which is reached at 10 feet in the sand.
A commercial investment of the property combined with the hotel can be developed into a private residential community of plots with houses and apartments (in two or three floor buildings), sharing a total beach extension of 4 kilometers.
Beach properties with ocean front are very expensive and difficult to acquire in Panama. Taborcillo would be the second beach development on a private island on the Pacific side of Panama ( Isla Viveros, an island belonging to the Archipelago Las Perlas is another project, but not as close to the capital, Panama City, as Taborcillo).
The Island can also be developed as a big (20 hectares) resort focused only to the tourism industry.
An investment maintaining the private status of the island, owned by a single person or a small group, rebuilding the hotel facilities into a private club with some apartments. The privacy of Taborcillo as a hideaway combined with the beach, the fauna and the geographical situation makes it a very prestigious and unique opportunity in Panama.
